Curatorial Remarks
Possibly a Seminole basket. This is a long leaf pine needle basket influenced from the Gullah people of West Africa. Many of the Gullah escaped enslavement from the sea islands of Georgia to Florida. Some Gullah people became known as black Seminoles. The Gullah language was once spoken in Oklahoma.
