Sealed Fate; Treaty of New Echota Protest Basket / Shan Goshorn

Essay/Description

Double-weave basket woven from cut strips of photographic paper, printed with a color images of historic Cherokee documents. The outside layer is woven with "splints" of the Treaty of New Echota, and the inside layer with "splints" of 95 pages of protest signatures.

Curatorial Remarks

Traditional double walled, rectangular, lidded Cherokee storage basket using modern materials.
