A traditional Euchee dress would not have had the ribbon work. This is adapted from Prairie style ribbon shirts. The ribbon shirt which starts out with the Prairie tribes, Ponca and Osage etc. as later adopted in a pan Indian style. Someone has taken the Prairie ribbon work aspect and applied it to what was traditionally a southeastern woman’s style dress. This dress is a good example of borrowing material culture from other groups of people. This dress would have been worn during a stomp dance. This is an example of a dance dress. This dress is situated in Eastern Oklahoma. Could have also been worn at other ceremonial dances or events. This dress could have been used for any type of formal event or activity, not to be worn every day.
