Multicolor cotton patchwork skirt with rickrack / Tahoma Osceola
Essay/Description
Long patchwork skirt of red cotton ground with four panels of patchwork in variations of diamond pattern with rickrack borders at top and bottom.
Curatorial Remarks
Seminole patchwork dresses and skirts are unique, and they likely have African influence. The Gullah people would flee from South Carolina into Florida as a journey to freedom, and some Gullah people adopted Seminole as their language and culture.
