Dear Senator Survant: John Ritch of Lewistown wrote me of your assistance and interest in helping to pass a B ill through the Legislature to place a Memorial statue of Charlie in Washington. That is one of the greatest honors that could be bestowed upon any son of Montana. If Charlie could tell us. he would just laugh and say, “What you all talkin’ about?” But we know he has earned that honor with his life work that was begun and finished in Montana, which he loved more than any place on earth, - his friends and his country. You live in the section where much of his life work got it’s foundation. I never had the pleasure of visiting Malta with him but I feel I know that country through his tell- ing me and I do know what a great part that section played in his pictures. On many can- vasses [sic] are reproduced little bits of history picked out of that country when it was a cow- country. All those working for this Memorial will be remembered as being far-sighted enough to get this statue while there were people liv- ing who knew Charlie and his type and character so that they could be reproduced in bronze that will last eternally. I am so happy to feel that this honor is going to be bestowed upon him and if there is anything in the world that I can do to assist, I hope that I shall be allowed to dosso [sic].
