Dear Mrs. Campbell: Your letter regarding the two paintings by Mr. Russell that you were considering disposing of was received. They are both beautiful pictures and if conditions were ordinary, there would be a chance to dispose of them for you but things are so very quiet in the picture world now that I’m fearful about even saying that I would try. You see, our slump effects picture buyers about the first thing so that I have to sit tight and wait until things straighten out to put my wares on the market again but I would be happy if you would send me a good photograph of each of the pictures: “Carson’s Men,” and “The Indian Burial,” with your net price. I know the belief is that Charlie’s pictures have reached a wonderful value. I like to think of that but it’s very hard to find people who will pay it. It seems that you might come across someone there in Calgary that would be interested in your pictures, but, meanwhile, if you wish to send me the photographs, I’ll do my best to help you dispose of them.
